Kevin Costello Sees the World of Design Differently

Slice Furniture & Home Décor

By Mark Zuleger-Thyss

The objects in our homes matter - mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health is enriched by the things that surround us. Home is where we relax our minds, restore our bodies, and heal from whatever obstacles life has thrown at us.

When you shop for home décor and furniture pieces, you want items that will genuinely add value to your space—aesthetically and functionally. Beautiful pieces that give you pleasure, especially ones that are fashioned out of natural materials like walnut, maple, and cherry woods. All the better to create a healthy home environment.

Kevin Costello sees things in fresh new ways – and his vision is exactly what you want for today's modern home. His creations give beauty new meaning - they are smart, stylish, and sophisticated. From his design shop located in St. Paul, Minnesota, this furniture creator dreams up extraordinary modern household objects.

After spending two decades traveling the world designing parts for cars, trucks, and planes, Mr. Costello turned to furniture. His brainchild, Slice Furniture, born in 2008, produces furnishings and home décor pieces with a Scandinavian tradition of affordability and beauty. Seen in San Francisco, found in a Paris restaurant, and displayed at the prestigious Smithsonian Craft Show, YOUR piece will be equally unique.

Slice Furniture is a one-man furniture company operating out of Minnesota. Starting out, Costello put his focus on re-upholstering Mid-Century Modern chairs and couches. Now Mr. Costello's fresh perspective is ushering in a new era of American furniture design.

Take, for example, his Terra Vase. It creates the illusion of looking beneath the ground's surface at a part of a plant we don't usually see.

Hand-sanded and expertly finished, each Terra Vase is custom made. The ribs are 5 x 5 inches, and the vase is 22 inches to the top of the ribs and 30 inches to the top of its spine. It's simply elegant and daring.

Finished with an imported all-natural oil that is plant-based, VOC-free, and completely non-toxic, this attention to detail provides outstanding durability.

The Terra Vase is available in walnut, maple, or cherry. Mr. Costello makes his wood creations to order and will be happy to craft yours in a different size or wood species. Contact him for pricing and delivery details.

Kevin Costello uses a Biesse CNC router, and for him, watching it cut a piece of wood never gets old. Over time, the art of woodworking has revealed to him that much value can be added with careful hand finishing. Today his modern industrial designs combine cutting-edge technology with the warmth of craftsmanship.
